Dealing in All Sectors of Masonry

While Brik-Art specializes in the use of Brik-Art products and specialty brick veneers, we also generalize in the demanding work that includes custom matching of bricks, mortar, and in the adoption of artistic principles to masonry construction, ranging from modest to upscale in remodeling, renovation, and new construction. We bid both private and public work (prevailing wage), deal in all sectors of masonry including concomitant concrete work.

Our affiliation with design and execution phases of work frequently exceeds prosaic standards of decorators, developers, architects, and designers by raising the standard and improving upon generic expectations. For a half century Brik-Art has excelled at the science and art of masonry in which old world charm and master craftsmanship blend into a smarter and more viable modern medium.

Highlights

Old Town Pasadena

One of the most successful civic/urban rejuvenation/renewal projects in greater Los Angeles has occurred in the historic business district in Pasadena; its popularity is evidenced by its prosperity and popularity, as witnessed by its heavy foot traffic seen on Colorado Boulevard, especially on weekends. Brik-Art has restored some of the old brick buildings there, working within the guidelines of local historical preservation associations code and methodology. Featured here are several photographs of the Dena House/Brix 42/Old Town Tavern at 42 South DeLacey Avenue.

Academia Semilla del Pueblo Charter School

Academia Semilla del Pueblo Charter School, a then-newly launched charter school on Huntington Drive in El Sereno.

Brik-Art was hired by the general contractor to build the block structure.

Pterodactyl

World-class architect Eric Owen Moss, whose award-winning Conjunctive Points/New City work in Culver City, California, transformed vacant warehouses into surreal office space. It showcased an existing parking structure which became topped with offices and was named Pterodactyl. The supreme challenge for Brik-Art’s participation in this project entailed defying gravity with solid block work, working with zany angles, opening solid block walls to allow new structural steel to pass through, with an inverted ceiling/soffit of block.

Brik-Art was also selected for other work on Moss projects in Culver City, including Nike/Converse.

Disney/ABC

The three above pictures show work in progress for the Disney/ABC facility on Mount Wilson in the San Gabriel Mountains, the broadcast location for television and radio stations that serve Los Angeles.

Downtown Pomona

At the corner of 101 East 3d Street and 925 North Garey Avenue in historic Pomona is the venerated Mayfair Hotel. The basement was entirely renovated (O’Donovan’s Pub) as was the ground floor (the J & J restaurant); both featured extensive use of the primary Brik-Art used brick with its 10 slightly varying shades of red brick.
